London’s Expanding – Home Extensions
London’s Expanding exponentially and have been growing in size and developing for hundreds of years before today. The demand for new homes, home refurbishments and home extensions is at its highest for many years. The comparison between the capital in previous centuries to today is fascinating and shows just how fundamentally different the landscape of the capital is. The images below show the dramatic transformation of London from the 1920’s to present day.
Amongst these images show London’s famous landmarks transforming over time including Tower Bridge, Buckingham palace and St Paul’s. It is incredible to see just how much the city has changed in the last century and it does beg the question, just how much will it continue to change and adapt over the course of the next 100 years. Will we see a return to a more traditional architectural appearance or will modern tall sky scrapers become the dominant feature in the capital.
Central London’s ‘then and now’ images show the church spire used to dominated London’s skyline in the 1920, now you can see glass skyscrapers have filled the view of London’s skyline. Is this going to be a theme that continues in the coming years and decades? Only time will tell!
In 1894 horse and carriages would have used on London roads, this would have been the only means of transport. Now our roads are full of London buses and taxis. Which one would be quicker getting through the congested streets of the capital in 2018?
One of London’s most recognisable landmarks, Buckingham Palace, has definitely maintained a sense of tradition and change has been incredibly limited. Although its safe to say that it is a bit busier nowadays than it was in generations gone by!
